My students are comprised of twenty-four eager, enthusiastic learners that have found their sense of comfort in our newly re-opened, year-round program. Many of the students are English Language Learners which adds to the richness in our diversity. Most of the children are enjoying their first school experience and with that comes the challenges of accepting diversity, self-awareness and the art of co-existing with others. The findings on our student's 60-day assessments indicate that half the class (52%) score as "Needs Developing" under the 'Awareness of Self & Others' measure. The assessment results also indicate that most areas of student literacy need development. I am unwavering in "planting the seed" with my student's social development because of its' parallel relationship to their overall academic achievement.
