We are a second grade class in an urban setting in California. We are extremely diverse. The students in my class come from cultures all over the world. A large part of the second grade curriculum is oral language development. Students are encouraged to bring items from home to share with the class. Many of the students bring in items that represent their culture. One student taught the entire class how to use chop sticks. Another brought in maps of a trip to Egypt. We are an arts integrated school, and my students produce amazing works of art. We incorporate water colors, pen and ink, ceramics, among others.
