My students are exceptionally nice, but most are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Approximately 80% of my students are of Hispanic ethnicity, the remaining 20% are mostly of Asian ethnicity. In class, I am constantly trying to keep them motivated and interested; I accomplish this by keeping topics fresh, incorporating lots of lab activities to represent key concepts, and keeping the curriculum student-focused. Our school atmosphere is very supportive and encourages students to fulfill requirements that would allow them to go to college. For most of our students, they would be the first in their family to go to college. Our school accomplishes this by not only educating the students in regards to college requirements, but constantly making efforts to involve the parents, as well. This Advanced Placement class allows students to experience the rigor of college with the support of a high school teacher.
