My Jr. High students are living in a rural community in Pennsylvania where there is not much to do. They are stuck in a Physical Education curriculum that is centered around team sports & mastering skills in those sports. Currently, 43% of the students at our school are overweight or obese and this number has risen every year since I began teaching 3 years ago. The students are willing and excited to try new things, but they just haven't gotten a lot of opportunities to enjoy new activities because of the restrictions on the curriculum and unavailable equipment.
