Our school prides itself in being on the cutting edge when it comes to curriculum, teaching practices, and technology integration. With 375+ students, age 8 to 12, we are situated in northern Michigan where winter weather offers a unique opportunity to extend this 'cutting edge' approach to physical education and Adventure Learning! Our older students are already exposed to this, albeit on a limited basis, through our annual Winter White Out Adventure Learning program in early February. There is definitely a need for all of our children to experience snowshoeing each year. Because of where we live, many students partake in outdoor activities such as canoeing/kayaking, hunting, fishing, and hiking, but most don't get out much in the winter. We believe that because many students are outdoor-minded, they may extend the school snowshoeing experience beyond what they are exposed to at school.
