My students are culturally diverse. One of the things I love about teaching in New York City is that each student teaches me about their culture and I learn about the world through them. However, many students do not know about other cultures or the history of other people. I would like to use "Night" to teach students about the events of the Holocaust through literature. The themes present in the novel are universal and it's important to teach students what hatred can lead to. In today's world especially, I want to foster and encourage tolerance and acceptant amongst my students. I feel that with this novel, I can do that.
