My students are 2nd graders and they are fun, smart, talented and ethnically and socioeconomically diverse. They are very excited about coming to school and learning but not all of them have the resources necessary to reach their academic goals. Some of their parents don't speak English, half of them don't have computers at home and there are a few that say they have no books at home and 1 student who is fighting homelessness. Our school wants to help close the achievement gap and thus we have started a new computer program that had helped them with their Reading and Math but we want to help them also in the classroom with reading books. Our focus is on improving literacy so I strongly believe that getting materials for them will really help fill the gaps that currently exist in the teaching curriculum. Having a diverse array of materials, will aid in the students' literacy development.
