I'm a 6th grade math teacher in New York. Our school has a focus on exploratory learning in math and science. Our students participate in a weekly exploration curriculum that is designed by teachers to be hands-on and interdisciplinary. During the year we focus on three different units. Our first unit was plant ecology. Now we are studying our city's plan for 2030. We've focused on three area: water, transportation, and waste management. We've learned about where trash goes, what and how much we produce, and how we can and should reduce the amount we throw away. Students have planned Public Service Announcements about these topic, some encouraging people to waste less and recycle more. But sadly our own school does not recycle.
