Our school is located in an urban city and is comprised of 95% students who qualify for free and reduced lunch. There is a large Hispanic population. Many of my students are typical fifth graders. They are looking forward to Middle School, getting jobs, and of course, driving! At the beginning of the school year they wrote personal narratives. It was heartbreaking to read about how they have been bullied, have no father in the home, or can afford very little. We have a Family Support worker that has grants for providing students clothing and we have a program called Food Lifeline that provides fresh fruits and vegetables and well as non-perishable food once a month. Many of our families participate in this program. Our PTA has little to no funds to support classroom projects. They barely have enough to assist with the basics. My students are truly appreciative for the things I get for them out of my personal funds. The Classroom Jeopardy game would be a great enhancement.
