These students have a wide range of abilities. They have a strong camaraderie and help each other surmount the challenges of being young adults who have a disability in a public high school. They are all on the Alternate Curriculum which includes life skills and community travel practice. Because most of these students have limited reading ability, visuals and community experiences are extremely important. A digital camera would enable them to photograph their community to create photographic artwork for the Very Special Arts Festival. It would also help them learn pedestrian skills, street signs, and the city bus system.
