Our students are from a variety of cultural backgrounds and speak a multitude of primary languages at home. While nearly all of them qualify as Title I students, it is our support and care for one another, the fact we sit in groups, and do many of our projects and participate in learning opportunities together that helps each of us learn how to not only focus on our own success but on the success of our buddies, groups, and our class--because "Together we can make a difference in our future and our lives." Some of my former students have graduated with honors from Yale, UCLA, Duke, etc. to name a few. It is that sense of cooperation that I have instilled that has not only made me a Teacher of the Year, but helped our students rise above when many, looking from outside in, may have examined these children's' circumstances and not given them much hope. The positive climate of our school helps all of us focus on the success of all participants in our community. It's a great place to be!
