Harrison Community Learning Center is located on the south side of Peoria, Illinois. The neighborhood consists mostly of rental homes and public housing. Almost ninety-eight percent of the students at the school receive free or reduced lunch, an indicator for low-income families. Not only does this percentage of students exceed district standards of low-income students in the school but it also supersedes the percentage of low-income students at the state level. Harrison has a predominantly African American student body; just over seventy-three percent of the student population is African American. Similar to the low-income statistics, this percentage surpasses both the district and state percentages of African American students. Harrison also has a large subgroup of Hispanic students whom are English language learners. Approximately seventeen percent of the student body is Hispanic and almost ten percent of the total school population is limited-English proficient students. "
