My school is a Title 1 public arts integration school with a huge focus on our K-9 music program. We also implement the Reggio Amelia model. Our students are taught mostly through hands on project based learning, purposeful play, art, music, and dance. Small groups, cooperative groups, partnerships and one on one is also implemented throughout the day in all subjects. My class consists of 22 first graders, ages 6-7, who enjoy learning through hands on projects/activities and student led inquiry. Mindfulness is taught daily in our classroom. This helps develop and build character and social skills that are needed in school and throughout their life in general. Self control, respect, patience, empathy, perseverance, flexibility, and optimism are just some of the qualities that are discussed and put into practice in our classroom almost daily.
