Scholastic News is an engaging, non-fiction magazine which helps student learn about current events from credible sources. My students (8th graders) have a variety of learning disabilities and find decoding and reading comprehension difficult. As their teacher, I work to provide interesting materials for reading and discussion that is still at their reading levels while also providing instruction in Social Studies. The magazines will be used weekly for reading, discussion, and comprehension strategies. The students will also have a chance to journal about their opinions and thoughts and share with peers across grade levels. Thanks for helping my students to stay current and to find a voice to express their thoughts about the news.
