My students attend a Title 1 school right outside of Washington D.C. We are a diverse community of over 600 students. Our demographics include: 39% Hispanic, 36% African American, 19%, Caucasian, 8% Asian and 1% Native American. Over half of our students are on free or reduced lunch, with only 37% of our families' population having a bachelors or associate degree. The students I teach are predominatly English Language Learners. Can you imagine trying to navigate school for the first time while learning a new language? Understandably, many of them are struggling academically. Despite the challenges, my students are wonderful, energetic, creative and thoughtful. I want to give them all the tools they need to thrive at school and love learning!
