I am a second-year teacher at a charter school in North Carolina. It is a Title I school in a low income community. We have three first grade classrooms with twenty-seven to thirty students in each. My school provides me with $300 at the beginning of the year. However, this money must be used to purchase any construction paper, paint, craft supplies, staples, paper clips, etc. I may need for the year. My school does not supply any additional funding for markers, pens, dry-erase markers, tape, overhead markers, file folders, or anything else a beginning teacher needs. Therefore, my funding for the year must be spent wisely.
