Building a classroom community is essential for these young second grade students. As a community member, students learn that their contributions make us stronger and our learning environment excellent. A common goal, like a class pet, can strengthen our bonds and give us common purpose. We can also develop our learning goals of citizenship, measurement, animal classification, changes over time, and force and motion. The aquarium items will be fascinating for my students to study. They will learn responsibility through feeding the fish, and maintaining the fishes diet during school breaks with the automatic feeder. The thermometer will teach the students about reading temperature. And studying the fishes anatomy through drawing and illustrations will excite these curious learners!
