My students have proved time and again that poverty does not have to mean ignorance. Even though my school has 100 percent receiving free breakfast and lunch, we have been able to compete musically with the best school music programs in our state. For the past five years, the music department has worked to hard to get parents involved in the lives of their children by inviting them to events centered around their children. Where we were once a low performing school, we have recently moved out of that "label" and are proud of the hard work that the staff and students have put in.
