The students in my classroom are as diverse as the community in which they live and the school in which they attend. Each student has been diagnosed with various disabilities including autism, mental illness, emotional and behavior disorders, cognitive and developmental delays, which impede their ability to learn in a general education classroom. Many of my student come from hectic environments and are victims of poverty and abuse. However, they are resilient, eager to learn and proud when they do achieve their goals. The district in which I teach is a very poor school that receives the majority of its funds from the state, which requires the staff to jump through hoops in order to receive the valuable state funding so that we can provide the students in this school district valuable educational materials that will help them keep of with other student in surrounding districts.
