Today's students are screen-loving, Minecraft-playing, app-switching clients of the future, and it is our job as teachers to keep up with ever-changing strategies to reach them! We are taught to appeal to every type of learner-come kids need to hear information, some kids need to move with it, and others still need to reach out and touch it. Research shows students benefit massively from technology. An iPad in my special education classroom would give my students access to resources far beyond what I can offer them. I am thinking specifically of one of my students who has Autism. An iPad offers him the chance to communicate in ways he could not otherwise. It's a new way to express himself. In addition to communication, the iPad will offer extra practice for the skills that my kids are lacking, which are preventing them from performing on level with their peers. Many of the apps make learning a game, which makes it high-interest, while offering a break from normal classwork. Thank you in advance for partnering with our class to further the success of these scholars!
