For the most part, my students are true high school freshmen! They are energetic, boisterous and, when they focus, they are tremendous vessels for knowledge. The students in my care are at-risk for not making it to graduation due to numerous factors that are out of their control. Many of them come to school hungry, tired, and emotionally drained because of devastating home environments. School becomes frustrating for many of them because of a severe difficulty with reading comprehension. Despite these daunting obstacles, their frequent jokes and kind gestures to each other show me that they have the personalities of gold. Our school is the epitome of multiculturalism. In my hallway alone we have students who speak English, French Creole, Spanish, Korean, and Russian. Our goal is to educate every student, regardless of nationality, language, or disability.
