I have a diverse group of students in an area of moderate poverty. My students work hard each day to reach the high standards put forth in the common core. They approach each day with a positive attitude and have a thirst for knowledge. My students have a wide range of ability both in math and reading. I have students who are both reading on a 6th grade level, as well as those that are reading below a 4th grade level. This can sometimes create problems when trying to find appropriate materials, but myself and my colleagues work to overcome this however we can. My school is one that prides itself on creating an environment where children feel safe, show respect and are consistently responsible. We celebrate the diversity among our students and help to address the wide variety of behavior and educational needs in this K-5 school.
