My school has a very high percentage of students with low socio-economic status. These students come from loving, caring families who don't have all the resources available to families of less modest means. When students come to my school, they come to a place with dedicated, passionate educators who work to make sure every child has the opportunity for success. I work with some of our most at-risk students, English Language Learners (ELLs). These students often have parents who do not speak English. This in turn means limited academic support at home, since all of our instruction is in English. As an English Language Development (ELD) teacher, I am able to support these students and open the doors to success in their general education classrooms. These are bright, intelligent students who simply need to be provided the keys to the English language to succeed. I feel honored to be able to help these students reach their goals.
