I am a speech pathologist who currently has 67 students (Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic, Russian, Ukrainian, Native American) on my caseload, spread out across three different schools. This year, my students range in age from five to twenty and we are labeled as Title 1 schools, in which the vast majority of the student population are living in high poverty. Despite this challenge to their daily lives, most of my students are still eager and excited to learn when they come to school. However, current technological devices unavailable to them can make learning more challenging. Evidence-based research has shown that students who work with and have the opportunity to learn from today's latest technology, such as an iPad, have great successes in their academic careers. By being able to utilize this piece of technology, I can best meet the needs of my students and provide them with an engaging and dynamic learning device for years to come.
