My classroom is home for students of different backgrounds including Hispanic, Chinese, Arabic, and Indian. They all bring a different set of skills and cultural backgrounds that impact the way they learn and progress. Regardless of their background, and their struggles outside of school, they come to school with a smiley face and work hard to succeed academically while learning English. Even though ELL Preschoolers show consistent growth throughout the year, during the Summer many of their skills regress due to the fact that families lack resources to promote consistent academic growth. My teaching team and my Families will get so excited when students receive a returnable Summer packet with bilingual books, and math games to take home with a parent guide. Parents will receive instruction on how to use the packet, and students will spend quality time with their parents as they read, play and learn.
