My students beg for stories daily, they love to be read to. I work in a title 1 school where students are unfortunately not read to a lot at home. I encourage my students to read to one another in class as well as their siblings at home. Reading can only take a child further in their education, getting lost in a book is "where its at" as we say in class. Having these stories to read aloud to my students allows them to connect on a personal level as well as their background knowledge from previous learning.
