I am so blessed to teach such a fantastic group of energetic first graders. They come to school every day excited to learn, despite the challenges they face in their home lives. Often my students come to school hungry and tired, and many times they require a trip to "the closet" I keep in my cabinet to put on appropriate clothes. My students are definitely from this new "I-Pad" era. They're all about X-Boxes, tablets, and the Internet. They often know more about how to use technology than me, and I'm really not THAT old. My school is a small K-8 school with a family atmosphere. We have an open door policy with our parents and try to do everything we can for our families. Money is raised among the teachers to provide food baskets, jackets, and even gift cards to help those who are struggling. Teachers are often taking money out of their own pockets to make sure their students don't go without the bare necessities.
