My students have very limited financial and academic resources. They have stores of potential, but due to language barriers, we struggle to get them to meet their potential. Many are dual-language speakers, but their parents are immigrants and they are first generation Americans. Our school is 85% hispanic and most of the students are EIP and take advantage of the federal free-reduced food program. We lack parental involvement due to the need for both parents to work and be paid at minimum wage level.
