My students have deficits in fine motor, gross motor, language and not to mention medical issues but no diagnosis has ever held them back. They work so hard and have tolerated so much in their young lives that most people will never have to deal with. My students may take ten steps back before they take one step forward, but when that one step is finally made, all the struggles are worth it when you see the beaming pride on their face. It is hard to put into words the feeling I get as a special education teacher when I see a wheelchair bound student sit up by himself for one minute or when a nonverbal child learns a new word in sign language. My students are such an inspiration to their peers, the adults in my school and all other people in their life. I am so happy to work at a school where differences are celebrated. In the world we live in today that is something that is unfortunately so hard to find.
