My school is located in a semi-rural section of Southern Maryland and serves 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Our total enrollment is approximately 500 students who eventually will be split between two different high schools in the county. The 6th graders I teach are a dynamic, diverse, and hard-working group of children. I teach three levels of 6th grade math; one section of co-taught double period math (with a special education teacher), one section of on grade level students, and two sections of honors students. This project is unique in that it is designed to use with a heterogeneous mix of all four classes during an advisory pd. Many of my students have limited resources at home and look forward to the opportunity to explore and engage when given the opportunity and resources at school. With the full scale implementation of the MD Common Core, my 6th graders are in need of enrichment activities to make learning real and offer connections to other content areas and learning styles.
