My students are an intelligent, humorous, enthusiastic group of individuals with a great capacity for learning. They come from a diverse background and many families are unable to provide them with certain resources. Every day I am surprised by their wit and intelligence. For example, when learning the vocabulary word, "beseech," one of my students who came to class without a pencil asked to give an example and stated, "I beseech you, Ms. Allen, please allow me to use a pencil?" Another particular student entered my class late due to crying because she read a book which made her "weep." I cannot help but smile when I am with my students. Nonetheless, the students in my honors reading class need to be challenged. This diverse classroom is filled with students who possess unique talents and they are bored with a curriculum that is less than rigorous. An honors class was created to challenge these students as they have mastered 8th grade reading level books.
