High school students work with children to raise plants from seed. Seedlings are nurtured in the school greenhouse before students transplant them to the community garden located on the grounds of the Boys and Girls club. All ages will work together to build the raised beds and erect a deer proof fence. Young children participate in every step with the guidance of the high school students. Volunteers will water and nurture through the summer and winter harvest. All ages will enjoy the produce; extra produce will be sold at the local farmers market with profits to pay water bill and purchase supplies for the following year. Master Gardeners are guest speakers throughout the year long project. Family and Consumer Science Department is the source of the classes where these high school students learn about healthy living and act as role models with younger students. All ages work together in the community service of building a community garden to nourish their body and souls.
