I teach high school chemistry in an urban high school in Texas. Our school is set in an area that is away from the center of town it has lots of land space with limited shopping. The students rarely leave their community. The school is a Title One school where most students receive free and reduced lunches. The students are striving to meet the state standards in reading, writing, and math for high school. The students are frustrated and need opportunities to experience labs where they can follow the labs procedures not only virtual labs and paper pencil labs. By the end of the school year, I desire that my students will be able to understand and discuss the nature of chemistry and general concepts and how they can use the knowledge in their daily living. The thinking through problems from lab experiences and conversions I want the students to be able to translate into their problem solving activities as they continue in the world of work or higher education.
