Our school is located in an urban setting, and our school does not have a lot of discretionary funding for all of the supplies we teachers would like for our students. My class is a 5th grade GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) class. Many of my students are considered English Language Learners. Yet, their verbal and written critiques of literature are sophisticated and insightful. I am often humbled at how amazing my students are in the language arts! My students are extremely bright and eager to learn, and many of my students are reading years beyond the grade level of the standard issue text books.
