Having a refrigerator will mean the difference between making a PB&J and making a meaningful meal. Students want to take what they learn in class and put it to use in the kitchen so that they can become more independent. Life skills, especially with students with special needs, is an important part of our curriculum. Students have already cleaned up and prepared for cooking simple meals and snacks in our kitchen lab, and are now waiting on a way to keep the food safe prior to preparing it. We have everything we need...except a refrigerator. Our students want to learn how to cook! Your generosity will allow for students with special needs to practice essential life skills in the kitchen. Making a transition from measuring pictures on a worksheet to measuring out ingredients for a recipe that they read will bring academics alive for these students.
