My students need high interest reading materials, that are appropriately written for their age. This includes fiction, nonfiction, and news articles. Scholastic News will help to bring current, kid-friendly news events in my room that are standards based and integrate different reading skills. Not only does this include current events, they also include other social studies topics, geography, and they also provide important vocabulary and ready to go lesson plans. These magazines will also help to teach my students tolerance, and give an understanding of diversity. With current events written in a way that they are able to understand and process, students will begin to feel empowered with the knowledge that these resources are able to provide.
