I currently work at Cigarroa Elementary as the 5th grade science teacher. This is my second year teaching science as well was general education. My first year of teaching, my students were in a preschool autism classroom (PPCD). All of my students were non-verbal but very expressive. The past two years I have been the inclusion teacher, helping out students with individualized goals. The reality is that my students and their families are extremely under resourced, often coming into school with the same clothes as yesterday. Because it is a public school, there are few resources I can provide as a teacher with such a small budget of $200 a year. Many of their needs are not being met simply because there is no budget for it. My hope is that the more organized my classroom is, the easier my students will be able to transition between classes. Predictability is very important to children with learning differences.
