I am the resource finder and guide (teacher) for 25 amazing first grade students. I work as part of a dynamic school that honors children as life-long learners and promotes an inquiry based environment for all students. So what does this all mean? It means that The Odyssey School does things that many schools have forgotten are important. We get kids asking the questions and help them make the connections they need to find their own answers. Our main content foci at this grade level is life cycles, water and light, healthy ecosystems, food chains, and energy. In getting to this kid-centered curriculum we take kids outdoors -- into their backyards and beyond. Students are connected with the natural spaces that provide the opportunity to engage with the content firsthand. We use only primary resources and have weekly visits from experts who help us find answers to our questions in authentic, meaningful ways.
