My first grade students are from a low income area and many do not own any books of their own. School is their only opportunity to read a variety of genres including non-fiction. This year I began a Reader's Workshop time in my class and their interest and ability have surpassed my expectations as their love of reading has grown. But one thing is missing, an ample selection of non-fiction titles.
