I teach at a public junior high school in southern Louisiana. My classes are a healthy mix of students from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Our school just received its first "C" rating - due to strong increases in student achievement. However, our resources are extremely limited, which limits our access to tools that can bring student achievement even higher. Students do not complain when they have to resort to graph paper and hand drawn illustrations to cite evidence for their mathematical conclusions. I know that in order for them to be successful in college or in the working world, they will need to be fluent in computer processing. Currently, our school does not have the resources to expose them to daily use of these tools. It puts them at a huge disadvantage.
