My large group of 5th grade students are amazing! They are a diverse group of learners, including 5 English Language Learners and a heterogeneous blend of socioeconomic status, although we are a Title 1 school overall. They are inquisitive and ready to take on challenges, but we have been in budget crisis mode for most of their public school education. My students are motivated by technology. They know that I did a teaching stint in China a few summers back and constantly mention our "lack of technology" to adequately prepare our students to compete in a global economy. These students are academically handicapped right now because of our lack of classroom technology. Our school is a neighborhood school of about 550 students. We have a fantastic principal who is caring and supportive, but definitely working within severe budgetary constraints. This project would bring some SERIOUS SMILES and MOTIVATION to an amazing group of young people - our future!
