"Music can change the world because it can change people." At Mission Middle School my band students experience the joy of learning musical instruments. They walk in eager to learn and happy to be in band. They are joyful and enthusiastic. We are, however, a low performing, under privileged school. My students cannot provide their own instruments, supplies, or music. We are a struggling program, hanging on by a thread. We have 982 students at our site, with 82.9% English Learners and 94.9% socioeconomically disadvantaged. In addition, a significant number of our students are below proficient in standardized tests. We are a school that would benefit from everything a music program has to offer.
