Students will utilize concepts of physics to create chain reactions. Students will learn about simple machines, research Rube Goldberg, and study his history as an artist including analyzing his cartoons. Students will pick a simple task and make it complex by creating a series of chain reactions to complete the task. They will take their two-dimensional draft and turn it into a three-dimensional project. We need simple machines activity tubs, dominoes, books and the game Mousetrap. Through trial and error, students will use aspects of simple machine to complete the Rube Goldberg Challenge. Students will be assessed on length of chain reactions, design elements, working as a team, and creativity.
