I recently started teaching at a public school in Chicago. As I entered my new classroom I discovered that there were very few chapter books for my students to read. There are approximately 35 students in my class with a variety of reading levels. Some of my students may be similar to you in that when they begin reading some chapter books all they see are squiggles because the words are too complex. There are other children in my class where reading comes naturally to them. They are fluent and comprehend what they read, therefore, they need to be reading more advanced text with more complex story lines.
