My students are beautiful children who are bound and determined to not let their loss of hearing stand in their way. They dream of attending Gallaudet University, The Rochester Institute of Technology, Harvard! They communicate using the most beautiful and expressive language, American Sign Language (ASL). They dream of becoming actors and astronauts, basketball players and singers. Some students have no hearing and some can speak with help from their cochlear implants. Regardless of their disability, they are involved throughout the school. They participate with hearing peers from the monkey bars on the playground to featured roles on the Cougar Morning News. Colson Elementary has an open-minded faculty and staff determined to provide access to every opportunity the school offers. Our school is host to over 35 Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, over 600 students, and 58 faculty members...but ask any student at the school...we're all one big family.
