In our county, every student in elementary school is awarded a music education, but the types of music education vary. In my classroom where I teach using the Carl Orff and Zoltan Kodaly (Orff-Kodaly) approach, students learn by doing and experiencing music first rather than the traditional way of learning through reading, enabling me to reach 99.9% of students 100% of the time. Students love to come in to create and experience music through movement, dance, song and drama utilizing a variety of percussion instruments and games. This is the basis of SEL learning and is a wonderful approach to educating the whole child where the student can flourish academically because their emotional needs are being met.
