Each of these books were hand chosen by myself to be supportive mentor texts I will use in my writing class. A mentor text is defined as: Pieces of literature that both teacher and student can return to and reread for many different purposes. They are texts to be studied and imitated...Mentor texts help students take risks and be different writers tomorrow than they are today. It helps them to try out new strategies and formats." I am the sole writing teacher for 3rd grade at the elementary school where I work which means these books will touch over 100 students throughout the school year. Modeling is one of the best strategies to teach writing. When a student hears and sees strong writing it inspires them. I truly want my students to see themselves as real authors.
