One half of my second grade students speak limited English. Three quarters of my students come from poor or immigrant families. We live on an island in a small community and the students have limited understanding of and access to the wider world. Many of the parents do not speak English and can not help their children with homework or help them to keep up with the fast changing world. They do not have computers or Internet at home. Their only opportunities to learn about the latest technology is in the classroom. Our school is small and has limited resources, our classroom has no I pad and has only 2 old computers for my students to use. They deserve to have access to the many new on line learning opportunities, and to learn to use a variety of technology. They deserve to have the same access to jobs as more advantaged students have.
