I have twenty students of whom two are exceptional education students and others are lacking in self-esteem. Five of the students are very low performing and lack the desire to make the right choices in life. My students are precious 1st graders who get really excited when they are praised or shown in a positive light in the classroom. Our school is a Title I school. These first graders love drawing and writing about themselves. Sometimes the stories are heartbreaking and their sadness is shown through their drawing and writing. While searching for ways to help them shine a light on their positive attributes and being able to write about what they see is very important. This is just one way of helping the students to have a different mindset about themselves and others around them.
