Imagine a room with 22 eager 6 and 7 year-old students all waiting to learn how to read. They love the beginning of they day as we divide into centers and I get to meet into small groups and spend quality time with them. I would love to believe they are getting this individual attention at home, but I know they are coming to me from single parent homes and families where parents are working graveyard shifts. Even some where there are several families living in one home. This makes learning at home difficult. Most of the students in my classroom are also English Language Learners. They are coming to me depending on me to teach them not only to learn to read and write but also to learn English. I must try my hardest to reach all of these students who walk through my doors each day.
